4th Place Worldwide - CanSat World Finals 2019
The 2019 CanSat Competition challenged teams to design an autonomous auto-gyro descent control system for a science payload released from a launch vehicle. Our team competed against 93 international teams and secured 4th place worldwide.
Daedalus featured a two-part design: a protective container and a science payload. At 450 meters altitude, the container released the auto-gyro payload, which descended while transmitting comprehensive telemetry data. Our secondary innovation included a 2-axis gimbal camera system for stabilized aerial imaging.
Advanced auto-gyro descent system with real-time blade spin rate monitoring and stabilization
Precision camera gimbal system for stabilized aerial photography during descent
Comprehensive data transmission: altitude, temperature, GPS, pitch, roll, and battery voltage
Two-stage deployment: parachute descent followed by auto-gyro payload release at 450m
